Usually the new cars were shrouded in secrecy right to the end, and we had to rely on stealth images taken around the Factory perimeter or over the wall at Fiorano. |

Organized to run every two years, this premier event, which is a retrospective of the golden age of racing in Monaco, is greatly awaited by enthusiasts of old cars but it has a particular attraction, obviously, for the devotee of Grand Prix cars. | |

50 | Feature | Six in a Row The story of this small series in a brief moment in Ferrari's racing history Alan Boe The Klemantaski Collection, Alan Boe, Lester Nahamkin / Steve Earle Collection, Bob Tronolone As the 1954 season was winding down, Ferrari and Lamprey concluded that an in-line power plant should be their weapon of choice for sports car racing in 1955, but with a six cylinder twist as we shall see, thereby temporarily turning their backs on further development of the big V-12s. |
60 | Feature | 0752 TR - The story of a unique TR 1958 pontoon fendered Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa Keith Bluemel Keith Bluemel, Jerry McDermott The 1958 pontoon fender 250 Testa Rossa is an icon amongst Ferrari sports racing cars, and the one that Sergio Scaglietti is on record as saying that it is the design that he is most proud of. In fact, the style was so popular in its days that clients had other Ferrari sports racing models reconfigured to the pontoon nose style. It is certainly distinctive and aggressive, with the projecting radiator intake featuring deep cut-outs between it and the beautiful rounded front fenders containing the covered headlights. |
70 | Feature | E.D. Martin - a true gentlemen racer His successful and happy years in several special Ferraris fully researched Willem Oosthoek The Oosthoek Collection Six feet tall and skinny, bespectacled and balding. Edwin Dennis Martin looked like an accountant. He certainly did not project the popular image of a race car driver in the Fifties, but the same was said of five-time World Champion Juan Manuel Fangio. Martin never made it to Formule One; in fact, his racing career was surprisingly short, just two and a half years confined to sports racers. |
98 | Mercato | RM Ferrari auction signals a direction to the market Leggenda e Passione - Maranello, Italy - May 18, 2008 Cavallino Staff Hugo Garritsen All eyes were turned to the recent RM / Sotheby's auction at Maranello, to see what effect the slowly evolving worldwide recession would have on Ferrari prices. The downturn in the economy started in August of 2007 and so the Monterey auctions were held too soon to be of value in this study. Auctions since then have shown mixed results across all marques, with definite bubbles (muscle cars) being deflated but exotic sports and racing cars holding up well. |
103 | Mercato | Bonhams and Coys display mixed results Auctions Arnaud Blanfuney Two car auctions - organized by Bonhams and Coys - took place during the weekend of the Grand Prix Historique de Monaco (and a week before the Ferrari/RM auction), with some very beautiful cars offered. Held in the walls of the Monaco Top Cars Collection - the Collection de S.A.S. Le Prince de Monaco - the Bonhams sale included ten cars and half of them found a new owner. |
